Swedish Apple Pie

By Max Barnes

Ingredients:
  • 5-6 apples
  • sugar
  • cinnamon
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 stick melted butter
  • 1 Tbs honey
      -optional
  • cardamom
Directions:
  1. Skin and slice the apples, combining them with sugar, cinnamon, honey, and cardamom (to taste) in a Ziploc bag, mixing together so the sugar mixture covers the apples.
  2. Combine butter, oats, and flour in the bottom of the dutch oven or pan, making sure it is mixed well and covers the bottom surface like a crust.
  3. Pour apple mixture into the dutch oven on top of the crust (drizzle more honey on top if you wish).
  4. Cook at 400degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes (or until it looks done).

  1. When I made this dish, I added some of the oat mixture on top of the apples. Because the dutch oven retains moisture, the oats were not crispy. It was good, but would be better in an oven.
