Cherry-Chocolate Cinnamon Cobbler

by Mason Nordfeldt

Ingredients:

2 cans cherry pie filling
1 chocolate cake mix
1 liter Sprite (or other carbonated soft drink)
Red hots (optional)

Spread pie filling evenly in the bottom of a 12-inch Dutch oven. Add an even layer of cake mix and mix in Sprite. Sprinkle red hots throughout as desired for an added cinnamon flavor.

Cook with 10-12 coals on bottom and 12-15 on top for 45-60 minutes.

  1. I made this and it turned out very soupy. It worked well as an ice cream topping though! If I were to make it again I would use about half the Sprite that the recipe calls for to cut down on the soupy-ness and to make it more like a cobbler/cake.

  2. I tried this. Because of the previous comment I cut the soda to two cups (1/2 liter). I also mixed the soda with the cake mix before pouring it over the pie filling. Turned out great. The recommended coals worked good. I baked mine for 55 minutes. The weather was warmish and not too much wind.

  3. This recipe worked out very well for me. I used very little sprite compared to the liter of sprite that the recipe calls for. I would make this again for sure!
