Root Beer Apple Spice Cake

Ingredients:

1 Spice Cake Mix
1 Can Apple Pie Filling
1 Can Root Beer
1 Stick of Butter

Instructions:

Melt the stick of butter in the Dutch Oven. Remove from heat and dump in the apple pie filling, cake mix and can of root beer. Don't stir.

Bake for about 30 minutes and then dig in!

  1. I made this recipe with some friends up Provo Canyon. It turned out pretty good. I just wish I had stirred it up a little bit, or better distributed the root beer, because we had a lot of dry cake mix. We used a 16 oz can of pie filling. Maybe the problem could have been avoided by using more pie filling to increase the amount of moisture. Overall, the flavor was great and it was a fun easy recipe.

  2. I made this recipe with dairy free butter and a gluten free spice mix. Because of the comment above, I ended up using 2 cans of apple pie filling. One can didn't even fill the bottom of the dutch oven. I also grabbed a larger bottle of root beer and just added root beer until it looked like all of the spice cake mix was moist. After 30 min, the apples were still a little undercooked and it was a little soupy so I cooked it a little longer. The final taste was very good! Since it was soupy, I think next time I'd use just the regular can of root beer and 2 cans of pie filling. Very tasty and easy!
